UK-based Harlyn Surf School has announced that it has been awarded an operators license as part of the new "Surf School Licensing Scheme" which was launched this year by the north Cornwall district council.
The scheme was launched to combat the overcrowding issues that affect the UK's beaches and Harlyn Surf School is one of the first schools in the UK to be awarded a license.
Chris Rea of Harlyn Surf School, said: "We are delighted to have been granted a licence and be part of a scheme that has been long overdue in this industry."
He added that managing the numbers of surf schools is one way to "alleviate the overcrowding and safety issues that can occur during the peak holiday periods".
Licenses are only awarded to surf schools which meet the strict criteria of the council and also acts to limit the number of schools which operate from each beach in the area.
Harlyn Surf School is based in Harlyn Bay, Cornwall.
