The Rip Curl Pro at Bells Beach has been called off for the day due to poor conditions, although there are big swells on the way.
Organisers were forced to call competition off for today, the first day of the holding period, giving competitors more time to prepare for the crucial event.
Running at the same time as the Rip Curl Pro will be the women's event, the Rip Curl Women's Pro, which has a contest window starting tomorrow and ending on March 24th. The men's competition window ends on the March 29th.
In the first round match ups of the men's event, current world champion Mick Fanning will be taking on fellow Australians Stuart Kennedy and Adrian Buchan.
Current ASP WCT rankings leader Kelly Slater will go up against Adriano de Souza and Troy Brooks.
In the first event of the tour, the Quiksilver Pro, Slater beat Fanning in an epic final at Snapper Rocks.
