Maz Quinn has extended his lead at the top of the Corona Crown Series ratings by winning the Billabong Pro at Whangamata.
The Gisborne surfer beat Zennor Wernham in the final to clinch the event in good one meter surf.
"It was pretty hard out there…I mean there were good waves but we were pretty much dodging them. I ended up getting two good ones so I am pretty happy. Zennor took down Jay (Quinn) and then Bobby (Hansen) so I was hoping that wasn't going to happen to me as well," Quinn told Surfing New Zealand.
Quinn secured the victory by scoring 14.25 points in the final, beating Wernham's score of 13.50. Bobby Hansen and Jeremy Evans finished equal third after being knocked out in the semi-finals stage.
Maz Quinn was born in Hamilton, New Zealand and has a natural stance. He is 31 years-old.
