French surfer Miky Picon is readying himself ahead of the Rip Curl Pro which is due to begin any day.
Picon was beaten in the third round of the Quiksilver Pro a few weeks ago by the world number-two Taj Burrow and believes the experience showed him the quality of the surfing on the World Championship Tour.
"This first event showed some amazing levels of surfing and it is a great honour to be among such talent. I am happy with my equal 17th still, because I won my first heat to Andy Irons (HAW) and it wasn’t an easy one," the Frenchman told ASP Europe.
He added that the surf in Bells is not "one of his favourite waves on tour" but anything can happen there.
In Picon's first round match-up he will be facing American Taylor Knox and Australian Michael Campbell.
The competition is currently delayed due to poor swells but organisers expect some action towards the end of the week and on the weekend.
