Round four and the final heats of round three of the Hurley Burleigh Pro Junior were surfed yesterday and Tamaroa McComb took a massive step towards winning the event by taking out both the number two seed Julian Wilson and Owen Wright in his round three heat.
Wright, the ASP World Junior Trials winner, and Wilson were brushed aside by McComb in three to four feet waves.
“I was a little nervous before the heat. I knew I had to surf at my best. Julian (Wilson) and Owen (Wright) are some of the best junior surfers in the world, so I just surfed it like a final. I could tell Julian was going to get a big score on his first wave.
I just knew I had to go big on the wave after. Everyone was watching on the point, so I didn't want to fall off," McComb told Global Surf News.
The top seed Stuart Kennedy eased into round five with a confident performance, scoring a two wave total of 13.73.
$25,000 AUD (£11,156) is on offer to the winner of the Hurley Burleigh Pro Junior which is open to surfers aged 20 and under.
