Stephanie Gilmore is about to start serious training in preparation for her defence of the ASP World Women's Title.
Gilmore, who became the first surfer in history to win a world title in their debut season, will begin her defence at the Roxy Pro on the Gold Coast, where she was brought up.
"It's totally different going from first round tour with no expectations to defending the title, so it's a big change. But hopefully I'll just keep doing what I'm doing and that's enjoying myself and improving my surfing along the way," Gilmore told ABC News.
Murwillumbah-born Gilmore will celebrate her 20th birthday on January 29th and has recently been announced as one of the nominees for the Laureus World Sports Awards. Mick Fanning was also nominated.
Gilmore clinched the ASP World Women's title at the Billabong Pro last year after her two rivals Sofia Mulanovich and Silvana Lima were knocked out of the competition at the third round stage. She then went on to win the event.
