Sally Fitzgibbons has won the Roxy Surf Festival and taken the lead in the ASP World Qualifying Series (WQS).
The 17-year old Australian is the current ASP World Junior champion and beat Brazilian Bruna Schmitz in the final of this event.
"Bruna surfed extremely well and I guess when you're surfing against someone like that, one high score is never going to be enough. I put my head down because I knew I had to get another one, and I'm just stoked to come through with the win," Fitgibbons told the competition website.
Shmitz beat Bethany Hamilton in the semi-final, who's third place finish is thought to be the best performance by a physically challenged athlete on the tour. Hamilton lost her arm as a 13 year old in a shark attack.
The Roxy Surf Festival was surfed at Woolamai Beach on Phillip Island and Fitzgibbons will take away the highest number of points on offer from any even on the WQS tour after her victory.
