The top names in surfing are talking up the chances of Bede Durbidge as a title contender on the ASP World Championship Tour this year.
Durbidge currently stands second in the rankings, behind Jelly Slater who has won both of the tour's opening events.
Former world champion and current world tour boss Wayne "Rabbit" Bartholomew told stuff.co.nz: "Given Bede won the Pipeline Masters which was the last event of the 2007 tour, he now has a first, third and second from the last three contests."
He added that this is huge because it shows he is a big contender in every contest now.
Kelly Slater was also quick to heap praise on the Australian saying that there had been murmurings about Durbidge being a contender and he thinks "that is right".
Last year's Pipeline Masters victory also gave Durbidge the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing crown and helped him claim the biggest amount of prize money in a single day in surfing history.
