Australian surfer Bede Durbidge has revealed that he finds surfing for his club more nerve wracking than surging on the world Championship Tour.
The Triple Crown of Surfing champion was speaking after competing for his club Point Lookout at the Rip Curl Kirra Teams Challenge.
Speaking to goldcoast.com, Durbidge said: "It's awesome riding in the Kirra Teams Challenge again. I love surfing for my club because that's where I learned my competitive surfing. It's good to get back to my roots."
Durbidge won his heat convincingly with a top wave score of 9.73 and added that he got one "really good" wave and "had fun out there".
Also competing in the tournament was WCT champion Mick Fanning, who was surfing for the Kirra Surf Riders Club.
Fanning won his heat to help his club to victory and the $6,000 prize money.
Last week Fanning suffered a defeat in the final of the Quiksilver Pro to the eight-time world champion Kelly Slater.
