Defending Rip Curl Pro champion Taj Burrow is still in the event after progressing into the quarter-finals.
Burrow defeated fellow Australian Luke Stedman with a score of 14.50 out of 20 to set up a quarter-final match-up against American Dane Reynolds.
"It was pretty tough, the wind got pretty strong, but the waves were good. I felt like I should have done a bit better than a 6.5 an 8.0, I wanted to put up some big scores but I just didn't feel comfortable," Burrow told ASP World Tour.
He added that he hasn't been in "really good rhythm with the waves" so far but he is doing what it takes to make it through the heats so he hopes he keeps progressing.
Mick Fanning also made it through to the quarter-finals with a comprehensive win over Adriano de Souza.
Tomorrow will see the eight-time world champion Kelly Slater take on Damien Hobgood in one of the remaining fourth round match-ups.
Slater made the decision to compete at Bells Beach at the last minute after earlier saying that he would only be competing on and off during this year's tour.
